Collective Power is a nationwide, cross-sector knowledge-sharing platform established to strengthen citizen-led collectives in areas such as energy, housing, healthcare, and food. The three pillars of Collective Power are knowledge sharing, connecting people and organizations, and mapping the movement. Our knowledge database is a place for scientists where they can make their research available to the public. It also contains practical guides, case studies and more in several formats. The Collections and Filters make it easy for participants of citizen collectives to search for a specific theme or act.
As part of the registration process, citizen collectives complete a questionnaire that maps the internal functioning of their collective while also serving as a moment for reflection. The data collected is used for the Citizen Collectives Monitor.
First published in 2025, the Citizen Collectives Monitor provides a comprehensive and in-depth overview of the state of local self-organization in the Netherlands. Where are citizen collectives active? How do they operate? What opportunities and challenges do they encounter? The monitor presents national statistics and evidence-based insights that help strengthen and support this growing movement.
It also includes an in-depth analysis of initiatives across four sectors: energy, housing, care & wellbeing, and food, nature & agriculture. The findings are relevant to policymakers, umbrella organizations, civil society organizations, and citizens seeking to understand how collective action is evolving and what support is needed to enhance the resilience of the movement.
The team behind the Collective Power knowledge-sharing platform is grateful that its work has been supported and recognized by a range of Dutch organizations. Since 2020, the project has received a total of €667,000 in grants and contributions from the following funding bodies:
In 2025, Collective Power received the prestigious KHMW Brouwer Trust Prize. The award, which includes a €100,000 grant, was presented during a ceremony in Haarlem on 20 January 2025. This recognition highlights the platform's vital role in fostering mutual trust and social cohesion through citizen collectives.
In 2023, Collective Power received the Erasmus University Rotterdam Open and Responsible Science Award for Societal Engagement. The jury praised the platform, stating: "CollectieveKracht's community-building efforts emphasized sustainability and engaged a diverse range of stakeholders, enabling valuable access to big data."
Two of the pillars, knowledge sharing and connecting, take shape through our events, which are held both online and in-person. We organize webinars as well as a larger event twice a year. These gatherings bring together citizen-led collectives, researchers, funders, government representatives, and network organizations, creating opportunities to connect academic knowledge with practical experience.
